Book Review: Eyes of Justice, A Triple Threat Novel by Lis Wiehl

The Triple Threat Club has solved intense murder mysteries before…but this time it’s personal.

Cassidy, Allison, and Nicole fight for justice every day—Cassidy as a crime reporter, Nicole as an FBI agent, and Allison as a federal prosecutor. Together they’re a Triple Threat to be reckoned with.

But when a ruthless murderer kills one of their number—and the authorities seem intent on keeping them out of the investigation of the crime—their desire for justice goes into overdrive. They find an unexpected ally in a quirky private investigator named Ophelia whose methods confound the wise.

Yet just when it seems police have the killer in custody and justice is within sight, he somehow strikes again. Not knowing whom to trust, the team engage in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with the killer. Nothing can be taken at face value…and nothing will ever be the same.

A riveting Triple Threat mystery that will leave readers shocked and satisfied.

My Review:

In reading the Eyes of Justice, A Triple Threat Novel by Lis Wiehl, there were moments where you thought, “Enough is enough.” Cassidy, Allison, and Nicole are best friends. However, when Cassidy is late to one of their dinner dates, Allison and Nicole begin to worry. Of course, being the friends they are, time is of the essence in locating the whereabouts of Cassidy.

The author, Lis Wiehl, writes with such detail. The story takes the reader on a journey into a world where nothing seems as it should.  Will justice be served? The characters are believable and the scenes are vivid.

Several times in reading Eyes of Justice I found myself holding my breath.

If you enjoy mystery and intrigue, then Eyes of Justice is a wonderful read that will keep you guessing right up until the end.

Stand by Me Book Review

——————-

God has such a sense of humor! Stand By Me A Souled Out Sisters Novel was an absolute enjoyable read. Like the Yada Yada Prayer Group Series and House of Hope Series, Souled Out Sisters has become another favorite.  This is a book where you want to pull up a cozy blanket with a cup of coffee or tea and just lose yourself in the characters. Neta Jackson has portrayed strong characters with various personalities to keep you guessing what will happen next. She weaves the Word of God into the story line, which is so uplifting. I found myself praising right alone with Avis during a time where she went through a difficult situation.

In Stand By Me, Neta Jackson sets up an unusual relationship between two opposite personalities. However, in the end, the purpose of His doing would begin to bring restoration and healing to the character named Kat. Kat was a young women newly saved and seeking her place in life. She was somewhat estranged from her family and longed to be accepted and loved by her parents. When hearts begin to change, things begin to happen.

If you’ve never read any of Neta Jackson books, I would definitely recommend all the books including Souled Out Sisters!

A Good Read Buffet Book Review – Refuge on Crescent Hill by Melanie Dobson

This homecoming wasn’t what she expected . . .

Jobless, homeless, and broke, Camden Bristow decides to
visit the grandmother she hasn’t seen in years. But when
Camden arrives in Etherton, Ohio, she discovers that her
grandmother has passed away, leaving her the 150-year-old
mansion on Crescent Hill. The site of her happiest summers
as a child, the run-down mansion is now her only refuge.

When Camden finds evidence that she may not be the
mansion’s only occupant, memories of Grandma Rosalie’s
bedtime stories about secret passageways and runaway slaves
fuel her imagination. What really happened at Crescent Hill?
Who can she turn to for answers in this town full of
strangers? And what motivates the handsome local Alex
Yates to offer his help? As she works to uncover the past and
present mysteries harbored in her home, Camden uncovers
deep family secrets within the mansion’s walls that could
change her life—and the entire town—forever.

My Thoughts:

Refuge on Crescent Hill is an enjoyable read. The author, Melanie Dobson does a marvelous job on displaying the allegories throughout the book.  When Camden has nowhere to go after losing her job, she returns to the only safe haven she knows, Crescent Hill.  As the story unfolds, the house was once used to protect slaves on their way to “finding a new home”–freedom.  Camden, the main character, discovers that her grandmother and the local sheriff used the old house to provide a shelter for abused women and their children until better accommodations could be arranged.  The characters were engaging. The plot was arranged beautifully. This is one book that all should read and cherish.

The spiritual aspect of Refuge on Crescent Hill could be taken from  Psalm 46:1 where it states, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

A Good Read Buffet – The Classic Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Redeeming Love is set in an era of the California Gold Rush in 1850. It’s a time where men followed a “dream” of becoming rich and the ladies were either housewives or prostitutes. Angel was sold into prostitution at the age of eight. The hatred for men continued to grow. Michael Hosea is a man after God’s own heart. He’s obedient to the will of the Father, even in marrying Angel.

Redeeming Love takes the reader through the ups and downs of how Michael Hosea tenderly displays the Love of the Father to Angel. She can’t grasps how someone could love her with all the “baggage” she was carrying. So she runs back to the only thing she thinks is normal.

When she encounters God for herself, Angel no longer has to solely depend on the love of Michael Hosea, but she truly understands the Love of her Heavenly Father as He slowly woos her into His embrace.

Redeeming Love is a book that will have you crying and wondering how a God can truly love us unconditionally. As Michael Hosea said to Angel, “When are you going to understand I love you?” Yet, God Almighty is saying to mankind, “I love you with an everlasting love…” Jeremiah 31:3.

THE AUTHOR:

Francine Rivers has been writing for over 30 years.  Shortly after becoming a born-again Christian in 1986, Francine wrote Redeeming Love as her statement of faith.  First published by Bantam Books, and then re-released by Multnomah Publishers in the mid- 1990s, this retelling of the biblical story of Gomer and Hosea set during the time of the California Gold Rush is now considered a classic work of Christian fiction and continues to be one of the Christian Booksellers Association’s top-selling titles; it has held a spot on the Christian bestseller list for nearly a decade. A Good Read Buffet Book Review: The Baker’s Wife by Erin Healy

Erin Healy is a prolific suspense writer. The magnitude of the storyline is unbelievable. The Baker’s Wife is a well-written story with twists and turns you don’t see coming.

The Baker’s Wife is one of those books that will attract and pull you into the very forces of evil versus good. This book touched my deepest desires to become more Christ like. In my opinion, the compassion displayed throughout the book every Christian should strive to attain.

Audrey, The Baker’s Wife, has a rare ability to “feel with deep compassion” to the degree of physical pain. She is a woman God uses to bring comfort and healing to hurting and dying individuals. She also faces enormous and insidious evil forces to try and shake her resolve. For in the midst of those forces she boldly proclaims, “For I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now, as always, Christ will be exalted.”

In conclusion, we need to ask ourselves the question Diane (another character) asked Audrey, “What I mean is, do you think someone can truly walk a mile in another person’s shoes, or put herself in someone else’s place?”

Best-selling author, Erin Healy is a prolific suspense writer. The magnitude of the storyline is amazing. The Baker’s Wife is a well-written novel with twists and turns you don’t see coming.

A Good Read Buffet Book Review ~ Cherished by Kim Cash Tate

Description

Kelli London once dreamed of being a songwriter. As crazy as it seemed, she hoped that God would use the lyrics that came to her while she slept. She dreamed about Brian too, that the love they shared would be a forever kind of love. But choices she’ll forever regret upended her hope . . . and turned her dreams to dust. When those dreams come knocking once more, she’s forced to deal with the pain of the past.

Heather Anderson’s life has spun out of control-first, an affair with a married man, then a one-night stand with the drummer of a popular Christian band that left her devastated. Broken and alone, she cried out to the only One who can save her. And He did. But that’s just the beginning, because now she must leave behind the only life she’s ever known.

Two women with shame-filled pasts form an unlikely friendship. What does God’s forgiveness look like for them? Will they ever believe that He loves them . . . and can still offer them a life where they are cherished?

My Thoughts

Cherished, is one of those books that remain with you, even after you’ve read it. The simplicity and vividness of Kim Cash Tate’s writing is so captivating. The message behind the story is one of redemption, restoration and forgiveness. If you know someone who has struggled with sins of the past and wondered if they were worthy of forgiveness, then Cherished would be a great gift. God is using Christian authors such as Kim Cash Tate to minister His redemptive, healing power through storytelling.

Cherished would be an engaging read for all.

I highly recommend this book!  Seriously!

A Good Read Buffet Book Review ~ Faithful by Kim Cash Tate

This novel was introduced to me by a beautiful young woman who suggested it for the next “good read” in our book club.  To be quite honest, I’ve never heard of Kim Cash Tate.  I heard the gasps!

Faithful is about three women who faces life issues very differently.

Cydney Sanders thought she knew God’s plan for her life. She was to marry and have kids. However, she’s celebrating her fortieth birthday as the maid of honor at her little sister’s wedding . . . and still single.

Cydney’s best friend Dana has the perfect marriage. But when Dana discovers her husband’s affair, her world goes into a tailspin. And Phyllis is out of hope after six years of unanswered prayers for her husband to find faith. When she runs into an old friend who is the Christian man she longs for, she’s faced with an overwhelming choice.

With life falling apart around them, can these three friends trust God like never before? (Part of the book’s description take from Faithful.)

Faithful, was an eye-opening, pulling-of-the-heart-strings type of book for me. I definitely enjoyed the book.

The way Kim Cash Tate writes a story is so engaging.   How she weaves the Word of God with real-life issues staring back at you from the pages of the book is absolutely captivating.

We all know that this book precedes her next book, Cherished, which is coming out soon!

My suggestion would be to read Faithful and then dive into Cherished which I’m sure will be another “good read!”

A Good Read Buffet Book Review ~ False Pretense by Kathy Herman

“Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.” ~ Hebrews 4:13

This scripture is the foundation for False Pretenses Secrets of Roux River Bayou.  This can’t-put-down-page-turner book is nothing as it seems. In the end, the truth is revealed and someone must give an account.

If you enjoy a book where you’re up most of the night reading because you just need to see what will happen next, then this is the book for you.

The back drop is nestled in Louisiana and the Cajun lifestyle is in full bloom.

The characters Zoe Broussard and her husband, Pierce own a Cajun eatery where the town folks come from near and far to partake of a little bit of  “heaven.”

When it seems all is well in the Bayou, think again!

In the midst of tribulation, we must know to run to the Rock of our Salvation!

Check it out!

Note: I stayed up almost the whole night trying to finish the book
